Weathered Board & Batten

Board and batten
weathered siding looks close to original

With the windows installed, next was the siding. The owner always wanted board & batten but surprised me when he came up with enough weathered boards to side the short wall of the project. The upper level of the wall was already sided and in a slightly different plane so I made an old fashioned drip cap out of wood except instead of oak or hemlock I used the more modern pressure treated southern yellow pine. This protected the top ends of the “new” boards and prevented water from flowing behind them.

Wishing to avoid leaving horizontal surfaces exposed to the weather, I cut the top ends of the battens below the windows at 45°.
