Wheelchair Ramp

Wheelchair Ramp

Railings being installed.

Though my company was not hired for this job, Paul, who designs and builds wheelchair ramps on a volunteer basis needed some help so I was hired as his assistant. It was an interesting job. As much as possible, the original porch was left intact so the ramp could be removed when it is no longer needed. The original stairs ended up under the ramp! Unlike permanent decks, the support posts sit right on the ground so no digging or concrete were required. Also through years of building ramps as a volunteer, Paul has worked out techniques that streamline the building process and make efficient use of the materials. His objective is to minimize expense to the owner as well as the time he puts into it. The finished product may not be as polished as a permanent deck but it meets the needs of someone who must use a wheelchair. It was a real pleasure working with Paul and learning his tricks to the ramp building trade.
