Second phase of the renovation project was repair of the garage that has also seen an excess of moisture due to splash off the roof. The original garage doors were rotted beyond repair so had been replaced but the siding, mud sill, and studs had also suffered and needed repair. With some creative jacking of the building, the rotted studs were cut off and new pieces scabbed on. Joints were offset to provide stability.
More creative jacking was needed to hold the roof weight while the undersized overhead door headers were removed and replaced with much larger, stronger ones. Sill seal, anchor bolts and pressure treated lumber were used to fortify the repair against further moisture damage. The header upgrade took the sag out of the roof drip edge and straightened the top of the door casing. It’s always nice when the things you do to fix things are immediately seen!
