Quite a list of repairs to this beautiful spot on a Vermont lake but these photos show the biggest part of the project. A door casing was rotted on one side and the deck below it was no longer supported. The laser level and some concrete blocks got the deck leveled up and the step was screwed right to the blocks using a hammer drill to pilot the holes.
The door casing was a bit of a challenge as the door stop contour were all of a single piece of wood. I duplicated the original profile and spliced it on to the remaining solid wood with a 45 degree cut shown in the photo.
Other repairs were patching a roof leak and bracing stair stringers so they didn’t wobble when the stairs were walked on. Also I added a gutter above the repaired door and deck so splash off the deck would be eliminated and removing a water problem for the siding and door.
