The plywood was apparently used as a filler to replace missing siding and perhaps a stiffener since it was under the 2×12 beam patch. It was a little surprising to find the ends of the pieces didn’t land on nailers but the surprise disappeared when the studs were revealed.

I don’t even remember this “band-aid”. There certainly was a lot of them found during our work!

At some point in the past the rotted siding at the bottom was cut off and this plywood was used to replace it.
