In these times of COVID-19 creative solutions keep solving problems where people might be exposed to someone carrying the disease. One such situation is at a Nordic ski area called Wild Wings Ski Touring Center where people want to ski, an ideal no-contact outdoor activity except for buying tickets and renting skis which is traditionally done inside. Wild Wings’ solution was to require masks around the nordic center and sell tickets outside, keep ski renters outside and take rental skis, boots and poles out to them. They even built a COVID-19 shed for skiers to get out of the weather yet still be outside.
There was still the problem of an official looking way to sell tickets in the parking lot. At first a couple sawhorses with boards on them was used to hold a few ticket sales items but they were not official looking enough so the owners came up with the idea of booth like Lucy in the Peanuts cartoon used for doling out advice to Charlie Brown. I came up with a folding design so they could just fold it up and carry it back to the ski shop. They finished it with exterior paint and some blackboard paint for chalk decorations. Below is my winter workshop and a demo video of folding up the booth.
