High Deck

This deck is the first phase to replacing a fire escape. Second phase will be a spiral staircase.

The old fire escape was well past its prime so an all new deck was needed and the owner had me build it a little bigger than the original. For economy, the solid parts of the old railing were recycled and we kept with the horizontal members of the railings for simplicity. All the posts not in corners had to be reinforced with post ties and blocking. Structural improvements are the carrying beam and the braces stiffening up the posts. Pipe staging and ladder brackets came in very handy to make working off the ground safe and convenient. Here are some more photos of the process.
