OK there is rot and these support studs are rotted off but why and how can this be possible that the only bottom plate to top plate support is a pair of double studs every 6 feet? With his first double rotted off that makes a 12 foot span of no support except the double top plate!!!!!!!!! There must have been days when the roof was carrying a snow load when the windows were trying to carry some of the load and were pinched to the point of being difficult to open, if they opened at all. The current owner doesn’t recall such a situation but then how often did he try to open these windows in winter?
Behind the left most double stud is an interior wall resting between floor joists. I could see that the floor joists were bending to hold up that wall, the ceiling and the roof.
At this point in the project it was decided to rebuild the wall so the windows would have to come out.
