Here the 2×12 support patch was completely rotted out as well as the original beam. It is no wonder the roof was sagging here and cracks had formed in the drywall on the inside. Interesting to see this photo after the job is done, knowing what is in the wall. Notice the blackened area spreading from the rotted 2×12 to between the windows. This is too high an area for splash from the deck to have affected. The reason was a bad leak in the roof sometime in the history of the house that had allowed water into the wall at this location. I know now because the old siding boards and studs under the T-111 sheets were rotted more here than anywhere else.
